Like everyone else, you must have read a lot of things about veganism. What’s the concept all about? Can you live a happy life without meat and dairy, especially if you have been a non-vegetarian all your life? Here are some quick facts at a glance.

Who are vegans?

Vegans are against animal produce, and they don’t consume or use any product that’s remotely related to the animal industry. So, they don’t eat meat and eggs, and they don’t use silk, fur, honey and gelatin either. Vegetarians, on the other hand, don’t include meat, dairy and eggs, but they may use animal products like honey and silk. There is another class in the segment known as the lacto-ovo vegetarians, who don’t consume meat but still have milk and eggs. Lacto vegetarians are people who skip meat and related products like eggs, but are flexible with regular dairy products. Quite understandably, following veganism is the hardest, because the food choices are quite restricted.

Why turn vegan?

Because you want to live a healthy and better life! Vegans don’t have saturated fats that come from animals, and therefore, they are a lower risk of diabetes and heart disease. Veganism is also about ending the suffering of animals, and since animal farming uses a considerable amount of food produce and water, it is depleting natural resources considerably. By turning vegan, you are doing a favor to yourself and to the planet you live in. It’s a great choice that will influence people around you, and together, you can make a big difference.

Knowing the challenges

Turning vegan might not be an easy task for sure. First things first, you have to consider the different ways to increase your protein intake, because meat is out of the menu. It is also hard to resist the junk food choices, most of which are reliant on meat and dairy produce. However, fast food for vegans doesn’t have to be as boring as you think. Think of the apple pie or a perfect hash brown. Yes, it will take a while before you can get adjusted to the new routine, and sometimes, it is better to take one step at a time. Start by replacing the fur and leather products from your closet. Next, you can try a meat-free diet for a month.

Take the smaller challenges, and turning vegan can be a lot easier than you think.
